Common GL Claim Scenarios

Customer Injury at Your Yard

A shipper visits your property to inspect their freight and slips on an oil slick. GL covers the bodily injury claim.

Property Damage at a Customer Site

While you're walking through a warehouse to pick up a load, you accidentally knock over a rack of merchandise. GL responds.

Completed Operations Claim

A piece of equipment you delivered is later found to have damage attributed to improper handling. Completed operations coverage responds to the third-party claim.

Typical Annual Cost

$600 – $2,000

The most affordable coverage in the hot shot package — and one of the most frequently required by brokers.

Common Questions

Do freight brokers require general liability?
Many do. It's increasingly common for freight brokers and direct shippers to require a $1M general liability certificate before awarding loads. Some require $2M aggregate. CCA can issue your COI same-day once coverage is bound.
How is GL different from my auto liability?
Your commercial auto policy covers incidents involving your truck while it's being operated. General liability covers business-related incidents that don't involve your vehicle — a client injured at your facility, damage caused while walking through a customer's property, etc.
What is a completed operations claim?
If a load you delivered is later found to have caused damage that's attributed to how you handled it (improper securement, contamination, etc.), completed operations coverage in your GL policy responds to those third-party claims.
Can I bundle GL with my other trucking coverage?
Yes — we often bundle general liability with other trucking coverages for a package discount. It's the most affordable coverage in the hot shot insurance toolkit and is well worth adding to any complete policy package.
